The journey

2023 Health crisis and inspiration

After leaving the ICU with acute pancreatitis and liver failure, I quit drinking and started keeping a personal list of venues with NA options. The list grew quickly, and I realized others needed it too.

2023 First version launches

Built the first searchable website: a single HTML file with web scrapers feeding data. It was ugly, but it worked. People started finding it through Google and sharing it.

2024 Mobile apps and global expansion

Launched iOS and Android apps, expanded coverage to 150+ countries. Sold my possessions and relocated internationally to keep operating costs low enough that the platform could survive.

2024 One million venues

Reached 1M+ venues, becoming the largest NA drink directory anywhere. Built an automated data pipeline that continuously discovers and indexes new venues.

2026 The Best NA Beer ranking launches

Shipped the piece I wanted from day one: a deterministic ranking of the best NA beers, computed from thousands of real Reddit discussions, with the receipts shown on every rank.

Today Building the data layer

ChillMaps now covers NA beer, wine, spirits, mocktails, and THC drinks, with live tools for the brands and venues serving the alcohol-free market.

My story

In 2023, I was admitted to the ICU with acute pancreatitis and liver failure. When I got out, I knew I had to quit drinking for good. But I quickly discovered something frustrating: finding places that serve non-alcoholic drinks was nearly impossible.

Most restaurants and bars don't list their NA options online. You have to call ahead, or just show up and hope for the best. I started keeping a personal list on my phone of venues with good NA selections.

That list grew into a spreadsheet, then a scrappy website, and eventually into ChillMaps: the largest directory of venues serving non-alcoholic drinks, with over a million locations across 150+ countries.

To keep the platform running, I sold most of my possessions and relocated internationally to bring operating costs down. This is not a venture-funded startup. It is a one-person mission built out of necessity.

In 2026 I shipped the piece I wanted from day one: a ranking of the best NA beers computed from thousands of real Reddit discussions, with the receipts shown on every rank. No taste panel, no sponsors, no pay for placement.
